New Campaign Ethics Training Dates Announced

The Judicial Campaign Ethics Center (JCEC) of the Unified Court System will hold campaign ethics training sessions for candidates in the 2007 judicial elections on April 20 and June 1. A third session will be announced at a later date. The two-hour training, which is required for candidates for all elective judicial offices except town and village magistrate positions, will be held live at the Judicial Institute in White Plains and via simulcast at locations throughout the state. Candidates who are unable to attend either the live program or simulcast can view the program by video.

The training will consist of a discussion of the ethics rules relevant to judicial candidates, common ethical questions that arise in a judicial campaign, hypothetical scenarios and a question-and-answer period. Candidates must complete the training either 90 days before or 30 days after receiving the nomination for judicial office. For candidates who are running in a primary, the date for receiving the nomination is the date of filing the designating petition. Read more at courts.state.ny.us
